Believe it or not, this is a quick sketch that I only spent about 4-5 hours on.  While looking for random objects around the house to draw for a class project, I thought, why not kids toys?  There are plenty of them laying around!  So I got this little set-up going and this is the final outcome.  The only obstacle I ran into with this was defining the different colors using only black and white.  It took a little longer than anticipated but I eventually achieved the slight difference in shading needed to show some contrast.

Also, as crazy as it sounds, this drawing was done with a mechanical pencil—which is not at all normal.  The block that the display is organized on is the only part of the drawing that is done with charcoal.  I thought it would be neat to use the darkest color for the least important part of the display.  My reason behind doing so was to attempt to make the viewer have to look deeper into the drawing to find what’s most important, which is the complete opposite of typical formats.
